'Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal are key assets' – Kedar Jadhav

Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav have been bamboozling the best of batsmen in their still young careers. Not only have they done well in the spin-friendly conditions at home, but are consistently troubling batsmen overseas.

In fact, both of them actually have better averages overseas than they do at home. Kuldeep averages 18.49 away from home against a career average of 20.11 while Chahal averages 22.13 overseas as compared to a career average of 23.75.

Now they're unleashing their skills with devastating effect on New Zealand in their backyard. The duo have accounted for a total of 12 wickets, Kuldeep taking eight of those.

As a result, New Zealand have been bundled out for rather underwhelming scores of 157 and 234 in the two ODIs so far, conceding India a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. Jadhav highlighted just how important the two are to India's fortunes.

"Kuldeep and Chahal are one of our key assets in the middle-overs when it comes to bowling," said Jadhav. "They're two talented wrist-spin bowlers. Most teams find it difficult to score against them, and once we put runs on the board, batsmen have to take risks against them and that works for us."

The all-rounder also heaped praise on openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, both of whom made big scores in the second ODI in Mount Maunganui on Saturday, 26 January to set up a total of 324/4. Rohit made 87, and Dhawan 66 and they forged a partnership of 154 for the opening wicket.

"After batting first you want a good start, and Shikhar and Rohit are showing their class... how consistent they've been in the last few years. We had a good start of 150-odd runs and we had enough experience to tick the scoreboard to a 320-par score.

But it's India's middle-order that has been bit of an issue at times, but even that seems to be getting addressed with MS Dhoni finding form. He scored an unbeaten 33-ball 48 to give India the finishing touches.

"All the middle-order batsmen are in good touch and especially [Dhoni] being in there till the last ball, it definitely helps. All the experience, all the power in his game, it helps us also to just work around him."
