Lea Tahuhu positive WBBL experience will aid New Zealand at T20 World Cup

There has been a strong presence of New Zealanders in this edition of the Women's Big Bash League with as many as seven players from the country turning out for various franchises. Five of them, including Tahuhu herself, are set to feature in the knockout stages, beginning Saturday, 7 December.

The returns have been good for the Kiwis, with several of them performing well, none more so than Sophie Devine, who was named the Player of the Tournament having scored 699 runs for Adelaide Strikers during the league stages while also picking up 16 wickets.

Tahuhu herself has been in reasonably good form for the Melbourne Renegades with nine wickets against her name from 14 matches and an economy rate of under six.

The fast bowler feels the experience of playing in the competition against some of the best players in the world at some of the grounds that will be in use during the T20 World Cup will be a great advantage going into the marquee event, starting 21 February 2020.

"There's five New Zealanders involved in the finals series and there was seven of us over here altogether," Tahuhu told AAP. "Just being able to play in the best competition with the best players and play on all different grounds - and there's grounds that we're going to play on during the World Cup.

"For the girls to be able to get a sense of how the conditions are and how those fields might play, and that sort of stuff is really valuable that we'll be able to take back to the White Ferns leading into that World Cup."

New Zealand, who have never won a T20 World Cup, will play their first match of the 2020 edition against Sri Lanka in Perth on 22 February.
