Edrich represented England in 77 Tests and seven ODIs between 1963 and 1976. He scored 5138 runs in Tests at an average of 43.54 and 223 runs at 37.16 in ODIs.

He made 12 centuries and 24 half-centuries in international cricket including a career-best 301* in the Leeds Test against New Zealand in 1965. His triple-hundred was studded with 52 fours – the most by anyone in a Test innings – and five sixes.

In 1971, he won the Player of the Match award in the first-ever ODI, against Australia.

In the 1968 Ashes series, he was the highest run-scorer with 554 runs at 61.55 while in the 1970/71 Ashes, he finished as second-leading run-scorer with 648 runs at an impressive average of 72.

He remains one of only 25 players to make over 100 first-class centuries, including seven against Australia, and also sits at No.5 in the list of most runs in the Ashes series for England: 2644.
