Liton Das creates history for Bangladesh in latest ICC Men's Test Player Rankings
Liton Das moved up five spots to 12th on the rankings and attained career-best rating points of 724, which is also the highest for any Bangladesh batter in Test cricket history.
Das had an impressive series with the bat at home against Sri Lanka, where he was Bangladesh's second-highest run-getter with 281 runs in two Tests that included two hundreds and two fifties. Though the Tigers ended up at the losing end, Das managed to shine bright in the series.
Das' team-mate Mushfiqur Rahim – who became the first Bangladesh batter to score 5000 Test runs and was also Bangladesh's highest run-scorer in the series – rose eight spots to be joint 17th in the latest update.
Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews finished that Test series with two centuries and as the leading run scorer with 344 runs and was duly rewarded by jumping six spots to equal 15th on the latest rankings.
Mathews' fellow centurion from the second Test, Dinesh Chandimal, also rose nine spots to No.44. The pair put together a 199-run partnership in the first innings, putting their team ahead in the game with a lead of 141 runs.
Australia right-hander Marnus Labuschagne remains the No.1 ranked batter in the world, ahead of team-mate Steve Smith, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, England's Joe Root and Pakistan skipper Babar Azam. Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne continued his reign as Sri Lanka's top batter as he remains at No.6.
It was Sri Lanka seamer Kasun Rajitha that made the biggest impression for bowlers as the right-armer jumped an impressive 17 places to 44th on the latest bowling rankings.
Team-mate Asitha Fernando also made giant strides as the pacer moved up 44 places to be ranked 52nd. He collected 13 wickets during the two-Test series against Bangladesh and was also the Player of the Match in Sri Lanka's 10-wicket win in the final match.
Australia captain Pat Cummins remains the No.1 ranked bowler, with India duo Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah not far behind the impressive right-armer.
