Litton Das to captain Bangladesh in Test against Afghanistan
Litton Das will captain Bangladesh for the first time in a Test in the one-off clash with Afghanistan in Mirpur, starting on June 14.
The keeper-batter will take the reins from Shakib Al Hasan after the all-rounder sustained a finger injury in an ODI against Ireland that is expected to sideline him for at least six weeks.
Das has previously led Bangladesh in four white-ball matches, including three ODIs against India late last year, but is yet to captain the side in a Test match.
The 28-year-old has played 38 Tests and compiled 2319 runs with three centuries.
Tearaway quick Taskin Ahmed returns to the squad after recovering from a side strain that kept him out of Bangladesh’s Test team that defeated Ireland in April and ODI squad that toured Ireland in May.
Zakir Hasan is back in the squad after making his debut against India last December but missing the Test against Ireland due to a thumb injury.
The uncapped Shahadat Hossain and Musfik Hasan have also been included in the 15-player squad.
The 21-year-old Shahadat is a right-handed middle-order batter who has scored 1265 runs in 20 first-class games with two hundreds, after being part of Bangladesh’s triumphant ICC U19 Cricket World Cup outfit in 2020.
Musfik is a 20-year-old fast bowler with 49 wickets from 13 matches, and both youngsters were part of the Bangladesh A side that recently played an unofficial Test series against West Indies A.
The one-off Test between Bangladesh and Afghanistan in Mirpur will start on June 14, with the visitors to return for three ODIs and two T20Is in July.
