Pakistan prevails in hard-fought battle with Samoa

Pakistan have finished their World Cup campaign with a win, beating Samoa by 52 runs.

Both sides missed out on the Super Sixes after not recording group stage victories, so this was a great opportunity to taste success. And ultimately, Pakistan enjoyed that privelage after productive efforts with both bat and ball.

Samoa opted to field after claiming the toss, but Pakistan had the better of the early exchanges, with opener Maham Anees (28 off 42) laying the foundations. Anees found support in middle order hitter Fatima Khan (25 off 14), who helped set up a total of 136-8 from their 20 overs.

Samoa's Norah Jade Salima was the pick of the bowlers with 20-3 from her four overs.

The tournament first-timers' start with the bat had them daring to dream of a maiden U19's World Cup win, with Verra Farane hitting three boundaries on her way to 19 off 18.

But while falling short in the end, Samoa finished on a high, compiling their best batting total of the tournament, all out for 84 - more than double their next best effort with the bat.

Pakistan's Haniah Ahmer took 17-4 from her four overs to claim Player of the Match honours.

Samoa brought infectious energy to Malaysia, playing spirited cricket and undoubtedly inspiring more young compatriots to dream of represting the proud nation at future World Cups.
