Mair ruled out of England tour as Penfold gets maiden call-up

Mair, who has played 28 matches for the White Ferns to date and was a fixture in the side through their most recent home summer, has suffered a bone stress reaction in her left shin.

The seamer has been replaced by fellow quick Penfold, who joins the White Ferns set-up for the first time.

“It’s very unfortunate news for Rosemary who’s started to form a key part of our bowling attack in recent times,” coach Bob Carter said.

“Rosemary is naturally gutted she can’t tour but we wish her well with the injury and look forward to having her back on the park soon.”

While this is Penfold's first White Ferns call-up, she has been involved in a number of winter camps with the team.

Bowling coach Jacob Oram is excited by the chance to work with the 20-year-old seamer.

“Molly has raw, fast bowling talent,” Oram said.

“She brings a desire to learn about her game and a willingness to work hard and absorb new information.”

“She will benefit a lot from touring and training day in, day out with our best bowlers in the country,” he said.

The White Ferns depart for England on 13 August, ahead of the opening T20I on 2 September in Chelmsford. That will be followed by two further T20Is on 5 September and 10 September, before five ODIs from 17 to 26 September.
