India opener Smriti Mandhana was hit on the head by a Shabnim Ismail bouncer in the early stages of their warm-up match in Rangiora.

Mandhana was assessed by the team doctor following the incident and was originally declared fit to continue, only to retire hurt an over and a half later after another consultation.

BCCI have now released a statement regarding Mandhana, stating that she was diagnosed with a mild soft tissue injury to her left earlobe, which prompted her to leave the field due to the discomfort caused.

"As a safety precaution, she was rested for the rest of the match and is currently under observation. Presently, the opening batter is doing fine and her condition is stable," said the release.

"Her progress will be monitored by the medical team and a decision on her participation in the next match will be taken accordingly."

India claimed victory in the warm-up encounter over South Africa, defending 244 and despite the loss of Mandhana, who walked off the ground on 12 not out.

Going was slow in the early stages on a green surface, and Yastika Bhatia (58 off 78 balls) was measured in her start, before moving into her innings with four boundaries and a six.

Captain Mithali Raj was run out after a mix-up with Bhatia for a duck, though the innings belonged to Harmanpreet Kaur, who raced along with little risk.

The right-hander snuck to fifty and held the innings together with the lower order, ticking over to three figures in the latter stages of the innings.

As a continued precaution, Mandhana did not take the field at the start of South Africa's innings.
