Marlon Samuels – ‘no third chances’

Stumps 1

In November 2023, Marlon Samuels, a former West Indies cricketer, received a six-year ban after being found guilty of four offences under the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code.

The offences occurred during the 2019 Abu Dhabi T10, where the ICC was appointed as the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (DACO) for the ECB. After a comprehensive investigation, Samuels was charged in September 2021, and in August 2023, he was found guilty by an independent tribunal. His six-year sanction period was announced months later.

Interestingly, this is not Samuel's first anti-corruption violation. In 2008, Samuels was banned for 2 years under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code for a similar ma. His ban concluded in mid-2010, and Samuels had a second chance at his cricketing career, resuming international cricket not long after.

On this occasion, however, Samuels has a six-year ban from all cricket for a second anti-corruption violation and is not likely to be given a third chance in the sport.
