Moeen looks to recharge batteries as he fights his way back into the squad

Moeen has been a regular feature in England's set-up across formats for the last few years. However, the 32-year-old has experienced a dip recently, first during England's victorious campaign at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019, and then in the two Tests against Ireland and Australia that followed.

Moeen will also not be available for Worcestershire at the T20 Blast, where his team currently occupies the third position. Worcestershire First Team Coach Alex Gidman acknowledged the all-rounder's decision, which comes after a hectic international schedule.

"Mo is spending a little time away from the middle recharging his batteries and putting in some quality practice time, which he feels he needs, and we completely respect," Gidman said. "He has had an intense schedule of international cricket involving the ICC World Cup and the start of the Ashes.

"Mo loves playing for Worcestershire and he gives a lift to everyone in the dressing room when he comes back and plays for us. We saw at Trent Bridge [in the Blast] what he gives to us and we look forward to when he returns soon."

Moeen averaged 18.75 with the bat and 46 with the ball during the World Cup. He was dropped after England's successive defeats to Sri Lanka and Australia in the round-robin. He then returned in the longest format, but could manage only 13 runs in four innings, with two ducks.

Captain Joe Root backed the all-rounder to rediscover his best soon. “He’s been a big part of English cricket and he’s done some fantastic things in a Test shirt. And it’s certainly not the last we’ll see of him," he said. "He’s a fine character, a great man and gives so much to this team. I’m sure that it won’t be long until you see him back involved.”
