Nawaz will miss the three-match Test series with a foot injury, and "he will not be replaced in the side", the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed in a statement on Wednesday 23 February.

The 27-year-old all-rounder had been set to return to the Pakistan Test XI for the first time since his debut series against West Indies in 2016, but will have to wait a while longer for his fourth Test cap.

Naseem Shah and Sarfaraz Ahmed, who were originally named as reserves, have now been upgraded to traveling reserves, but will "only be considered for selection" in case of an injury in the playing squad, the PCB have said.

Mohammad Haris, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Abbas and Yasir Shah are also on the reserve list, but they all have been advised to participate in the Pakistan Cup, which commences on 2 March.

Test players who attended a training camp in Karachi, and who were not involved in the ongoing Pakistan Super League playoffs, are due to arrive in Islamabad later on Wednesday, with their first training session set to take place on Sunday after the squad undergoes a three-day hotel quarantine.

The players involved in the PSL, who are also a part of the Test series, will travel to Islamabad in a bubble on 28 February and will participate in a training session on 1 March.
