Munro scores 96* as Trinbago Knight Riders post record total

The run-fest at Kingston comes less than a week after St Kitts and Nevis Patriots chased down 242 against Jamaica to set a CPL record score. That mark has now been shattered.

Lendl Simmons and Sunil Narine began the run-scoring on Friday, 13 September, adding 55 before Narine became the first wicket to fall in 5.2 overs to the spin of Zahir Khan. Simmons and New Zealand's Colin Munro then combined to add 124 for the second wicket, each bringing up their half-centuries in quick time.

Kieron Pollard gave the innings its final thrust, smashing a 17-ball 45*. In all, 171 runs were added in the final 10 overs. Munro missed out on a century, finishing on 96* off 50 balls, with six fours and eight sixes.

Jamaica Tallawahs paid for their profligate ways with the ball and on the field. They dropped catches and conceded 20 extras, including seven no-balls – two of which would have resulted in the wicket of Simmons.

As it happened, Simmons was run out in unusual fashion in the free-hit ball that followed a no-ball: Javelle Glen caught him at long-on, and having forgotten it was a free-hit, began celebrating the catch. Simmons used the opportunity to steal a third, but with Glen realising his error, the batsman was caught short. He fell for a well-made 86 off 42 balls, with five sixes.

Glenn Phillips made a fight of it, striking four sixes in his 32-ball 62. His first-wicket stand with Chris Gayle was worth 88 in 7.2 overs. However, Mohammad Hasnain's two wickets in the eighth over robbed the chase of momentum.

Ramaal Lewis swung his bat for 37* off 15 from No.8, but it was too stiff a target.

Jamaica's Andre Russell, who had been hit on the head the previous day, was ruled out of the match.
