"Deepak felt mild pain in his lower back following the second ODI played in Vizag on Wednesday," the BCCI stated in a release on Thursday, 19 December. "The BCCI medical team examined him and has suggested that the fast bowler needs some rest in order to fully recover. He has thus been ruled out of the final ODI."
Saini will join the Indian team as the third seamer in the squad alongside Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur. Saini, who made his T20I debut in August this year, has played five matches so far and picked up six wickets. He last played in the third T20I against South Africa in September.
The series decider is due to be played in Cuttack on Sunday, 22 December.
