New faces have brought energy into the team, says Aaron Finch

It is an inexperienced Australian one-day international side that is in England for a five-match series. But Aaron Finch, one of the older heads in the group, sees it as a positive thing that brings new energy into the group.

"There's a lot of excitement around. Any time you bring young guys into the squad for their first or second tour, it brings a lot of energy around the group," said Finch on Friday, 9 June, on the sidelines of the team’s training session.

"There's a few guys here that it's the first time I've toured with, and I've been around a little while now.”

Finch, named vice-captain to new skipper Tim Paine, said the tour gave Australia an opportunity to work backwards from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in England and Wales.

“Our one-day cricket hadn't been that great over the last 18 months to two years, so who knows, if we give these young guys a few opportunities, they can do some wonderful things. They are going to be great players."

Australia won their first practice match on the tour, against Sussex, and have another one lined up at Lord’s against Middlesex before the first ODI against England on June 13 at The Oval.

Finch appreciated the rare chance to play warm-up games during a limited overs series.

“It’s not often that you play against a county team that has more international experience than your international team,” he said.

"For a lot of the guys who’ve have had time off over the last couple of months, the guys who weren't in the IPL, it's a great chance to get stuck into cricket."

Under new coach Justin Langer, training was slightly different, the opening batsman revealed, and he felt the tour was a chance for Langer to mould the team in his vision.

"But you don't want to be in his glare!" Finch added about the new coach. "I've been there before, not on this tour, but in the past."
