Overview

New Zealand vs West Indies, 3rd T20I
Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui

West Indies' bowlers have struggled to keep a lid on the Black Caps batsmen so far in this series, and it has cost them dearly with the hosts having already secured a series victory heading into the final game. They will be boosted however by the absence of the experienced duo of Southee and Taylor in the opposition ranks, with the former having captained the home side in the previous two fixtures. Kyle Jamieson, who will also miss the final T20I, will also be missed by the hosts, having so far returned combined figures of 2/41 from eight overs across two high-scoring games.

Kieron Pollard will also be hoping for more standout performances from his batsmen, with the West Indies skipper the only tourist to have reached a half-century in the series so far. There have been positives for the tourists as well. In particular Pollard has continued his belligerent form from the IPL, having scored 103 runs off 52 balls in his two innings, including 12 sixes.

Mitchell Santner is set to captain New Zealand for the first time in his 140-match international career, and with Doug Bracewell, Scott Kuggeleijn and Mark Chapman joining the squad, he will have plenty of choices from which to choose the three required replacements. Other options are Hamish Bennett, who played the first game, and Daryl Mitchell, who has not yet appeared in the series.

Remember the last time

Glenn Phillips' blistering century ensured a comfortable victory for New Zealand in the second game of the series, while Devon Conway followed up his 41 on debut in the opening fixture with 65* from just 37 balls as New Zealand posted 238/3. Kyle Jamieson's 2/15 in four overs made a tall task nigh-on impossible for West Indies and in the end they fell 72 runs short.

What they said:

Glenn Phillips (New Zealand batsman):"A big part of our game-plan is communication, reading the situation, adjusting to it. So, for me and Devon, who've never played with each other before, the communication side of things is even more crucial."
