Perry set to join exclusive club
New Zealand's Liz Perry will join an elite club during the ICC World Twenty20 2010 if she wins her first cap for the White Ferns.
Perry will follow in the footsteps of Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine in representing New Zealand at two sports, having already played hockey for her country.
"I made my debut against Argentina last year with the Black Sticks alongside Sophie Devine, and it has always been a goal of mine to play for two teams at an international level," said Perry in an interview with the New Zealand Cricket website.
"I never thought it would happen so quickly because the hockey international programme has kept me busy. But I realised I wanted to give cricket a crack."
Perry admitted that she was stunned when she received the call from the New Zealand coach to tell her she had made the squad for the ICC World Twenty20 2010.
"When Gary Stead (White Ferns' coach) called me the first time I didn't want to answer," said Perry.
"But when he called back he told me I'd made the side and I was completely dumbfounded. I couldn't talk for about five minutes!"
