Queens Sports Club
Bulawayo, the base for the teams in Group B of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018, has two venues for the event: Bulawayo Athletics Club and Queens Sports Club (QSC). The latter, one of the premier international cricket venues in Zimbabwe, will host six matches and two warm-up games.
Surrounded by trees and with inviting grass banks from which spectators can enjoy the game, QSC makes for a picturesque location. An old pavilion adds to the charm.
Established in the late 1800s, the club ground became the third Test venue in Zimbabwe, hosting its first international match in 1994.
Records
The highest total in the 71 one-day internationals here was New Zealand’s 397/5 against Zimbabwe in 2005.
Years later in 2011, the home side memorably chased down 328/5 – also against the Kiwis – with one wicket and one ball to spare, with Malcolm Waller unbeaten on 99.
Charles Coventry was left undefeated on 194 against Bangladesh in 2009 – the highest ever individual ODI score by a Zimbabwean.
Paul Strang, with 8/109 against New Zealand here in 2000, achieved his country’s best bowling figures in an innings.
