UAE VS NEPAL – KINRARA OVAL

Two winners from day one faced each other on the second day of the ICC U19 CWC Asia Qualifier. UAE had the advantage of having played at the Kinrara Oval on the opening day, but Nepal impressed with the bat first up.

UAE won the toss and elected to field first, and while Nepal’s top four managed to get themselves to starts, it was Hari Bahadur Chauhan and B Sharki at No.6 and No.7 that caught the eye. Chauhan’s 67 came from 74 balls and included seven fours, while Sharki’s 53 came off 54 and included four fours and two sixes. Fierce batting by Nepal took them to 247 all out.

UAE captain Aryan Lakra’s left-arm bowling was economical as he conceded just 17 from his 10 overs, but it was R Mukherjee who was the leading wicket-taker, returning figures of 4/64. Muhammad Farazuddin also showed his mettle with his 3/52.

Chasing 248, UAE had to work hard to topple Nepal’s target. Bowling for Nepal, KS Airee and S Dhakkal took a wicket each, and limited UAE to 122/3 from 30 overs.

Rain stopped play, with the match referees deciding to concede the win to UAE by 1 run (DLS Method). Chauhan was adjudged to be the Player of the Match.

KUWAIT VS SINGAPORE – BAYUEMAS OVAL

Kuwait controlled their match against Singapore from the get-go. Singapore won the toss and elected to bat, amassing a score of just 93. SH Venugopal was first to fall, bowled by Hamoud Amanullah. In the ninth over, Amanullah took out two more wickets: Aman Desai (captain) and A Chabria. With the top order removed, Singapore struggled to make more runs or keep their wickets. A Berry was final wicket, with Singapore all out after 43.5 overs.

Kuwait made short work of their target, needing only four batsmen on their way to the target of 94. Meet Bhavsar was dismissed in the opening over by P Sudarshan, and while Singapore’s V Mehta and I Sawney did well to curb the flow of runs in the opening stages, Abdul Sadiq and Gokul Kumar took Singapore to 72/1 before Sadiq was out to Berry. Next in was Noman Budroo, who together with Kumar, helped Kuwait to the target in 22.4 overs.

Kuwait’s captain, Sadiq, named Player of the Match, having taken 4/21 to go alongside his strong batting effort.
