Rumman Raees Called Into Pakistan Squad

Left-arm quick Rumman Raees has been called up to Pakistan’s ICC Champions Trophy squad as a like-for-like replacement for the injured Wahab Riaz.

Riaz suffered an ankle injury in the defeat by India at Edgbaston on Sunday. He left the field in the 46th over of India's innings and the Pakistan Cricket Board later confirmed that the scan revealed the 31-year-old had suffered a “deltoid ligament complex”, expected to keep him out of action for a minimum of two weeks.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Champions Trophy approved Pakistan’s request to call up a replacement for Riaz and today Pakistan confirmed Raees has been added to the squad.

Raees, a 25-year-old left-armer, has made two T20I appearances but has yet to feature in an ODI. He has 64 wickets at 25.18 from 42 List A appearances, and 123 first-class wickets, with career-best figures of 7-31.

Mohammad Amir, who also left the field with cramps against India, Hasan Ali, Junaid Khan and allrounder Faheem Ashraf are Pakistan’s other fast-bowling options.

They face South Africa in their second Group B game at Edgbaston on Wednesday.
