Sarah Taylor joins Sussex coaching staff

Taylor, regarded as among the finest at her craft, will coach the senior wicket-keepers at Sussex – Ben Brown and Phil Salt – as well as the academy players, alongside newly-appointed head coaches Ian Salisbury and James Kirtley.

Taylor, who played 226 matches for England across formats in a 13-year international career, holds the record for the most wicket-keeping dismissals in women’s international cricket. She has also scored over 6,500 international runs, and will now play an unfamiliar role coaching in the men’s set-up at county cricket.

“I'm really pleased about working with the club's wicket-keepers,” Taylor told Sussex. “From Ben Brown and Phil Salt in the professional squad and down through the pathway, we have a really talented group of keepers at Sussex who I am looking forward to working with immensely.

"I want to share my experience and expertise to help them get the most out of their game. I'm a big believer in keeping things simple and perfecting the basics so that players can enjoy and express themselves with the gloves.”

Taylor retired from international cricket in 2019, at the age of 30, owing to long-term struggles with anxiety, but she hasn’t ruled out returning to her playing career, saying, "If the opportunity presents itself, I’ll have to think about it.

“But I’m just enjoying being behind the scenes and helping other people with what I’ve learned. Hopefully, I can give back to the game.”
