Shami aims to return during England Test series

Fast bowler Mohammed Shami is aiming to return from injury during the five-match home Test series against England.

Shami, who missed the South Africa Tests with an ankle injury, has revealed that he believes he would be able to return to international cricket during the ICC World Test Championship series at home against England.

Speaking to Times of India, Shami stated that his "rehabilitation is well on track".

"There is slight stiffness in my ankle but that's fine," Shami said, adding that the medical experts at the NCA were happy with his progress.

"I have started my training sessions and I believe I will be able to make a comeback in the England series."

Shami, who last featured in a Test match at the World Test Championship final against Australia, was rested from the Caribbean tour and missed the South Africa Tests after being named in the squad initially.

Shami was not cleared by BCCI's medical team ahead of the South Africa tour and was subsequently withdrawn from the squad.

In Shami's absence the Indian team drew level in South Africa to earn crucial World Test Championship points and rise to the top of the standings, although Australia's win over Pakistan saw them pip India to the top in two days.

Stating that the bowling effort from the team was brilliant, Shami said that he hoped he would be able to return to action during the five-match series against England.

The Test series begins on January 25 in Hyderabad. Vizag, Rajkot, Ranchi and Dharamsala would host the remaining Test matches in the series, which runs till early March.
