South Africa stay 1-0 up after rain spoils second ODI
The Windies, 1-0 down after losing the first game at the same venue – Bridgetown’s Kensington Oval – by 40 runs, won the toss and opted to field in a match shortened first to 43 overs a side, then 38 overs because of poor weather, and did fairly well for the most part.
Shamilia Connell sent back Laura Wolvaardt early, and it was 53/3 after Deandra Dottin had accounted for Lizelle Lee (22) and Sune Luus (20) – she later sent back Marizanne Kapp to end with 3/29.
South Africa fought back well through van Niekerk (53), Mignon du Preez (19) and Chloe Tryon (37) to post 177/8 in 38 overs. But with more rain falling, no play was possible after the innings break and the match was called off.
Bad news everyone, the 2nd ODI between West a indies & South Africa has been rained out. The showers fell just after the innings break began and did not stop until a few minutes ago. Good news, we have a decider on our hands this Friday & we back our ladies to come out on top! pic.twitter.com/ipKHG23l03
