Special offer to SCG rain game fans
Cricket Australia is offering fans from last night's rain-affected SCG ODI a free Australia Day T20 International ticket for each T20 ticket they buy, in thanks for their support of the cricket yesterday.
Australia is due to play Sri Lanka in the first of this summer's international T20s at Stadium Australia on 26 January.
CA Executive General Manager - Operations, Mike McKenna said there was a tremendous atmosphere at the SCG last night and CA understood the fans' disappointment when the game was unable to be completed after a prolonged attempt to restore the playing arena after rain.
"Unfortunately, rain does affect cricket games from time to time but the circumstances with the large and - until that moment - very happy crowd last night were very unusual and we want to recognise that," he said.
"Cricket and Australia Day go hand in hand and we hope this one-off offer helps offset last night's disappointment," he said.
CA has separately written to the ICC to ask for further details on the decision to abandon the match.
For the Australia Day T20I at Stadium Australia gates will be open from 5pm for a 7.35pm match start on 26 January, but there will be a 3pm precinct party at the adjoining Cathy Freeman Park offering range of family-day pre-match activities such as kids' rides, backyard cricket games, player autographs and an Aussie Day Barbecue offered for fans wanting to make a family day out of the game.
The special offer is on sale for one day only and has been communicated by an email message to fans who pre-purchased tickets before last night's game.
The Australia Day game is the first of three T20 Internationals this summer, with another game against Sri Lanka at the MCG on 28 January and a game against the West Indies at the Gabba on 13 February.
