Star players returns to Afghanistan T20I squad for Ireland series

Rashid Khan makes a return to professional cricket for the first time since the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023.

Afghanistan's star spinner Rashid Khan has returned after a lengthy break following a back injury that saw him sidelined since the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023.

Rashid has not played a competitive game since the tournament in India but travelled with the team for the white-ball series against Ireland, although he was deemed unfit to play a part during the ODI component of the series.

Mohammad Nabi, Noor Ahmad, Qais Ahmad, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Allah Ghazanfar, and Nangyal Kharoti have handled spin duties in his absence.

Rashid Khan ran in from the deep and took a sliding catch for Afghanistan to dismiss Australia's Pat Cummins in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022

Rashid will lead the side on his return while Mujeeb ur Rahman also makes a comeback from his injury.

"Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman continue to recover from their respective injuries and are unavailable for selection," ACB chief selector Ahmad Shah Sulimankhil had said when picking the ODI team for the Ireland series.

The duo's return is a major boost for Afghanistan, who completed a 2-0 ODI series win over Ireland.

The trio of T20Is will be played in Sharjah from March 15th.

Mujeeb Ur Rehman snares Pathum Nissanka with a brilliant delivery that confounded the batter during Afghanistan v Sri Lanka in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022.
