Thailand Women out to extend hot streak against Zimbabwe

The rapidly emerging Thailand outfit will be out to stretch their white-ball winning streak beyond five matches when they face Zimbabwe in four T20Is in Bangkok starting on April 25.

The hosts enter the T20I series in fine form after a comprehensive ODI clean sweep over Zimbabwe that included victories by 78 runs, 45 runs and six wickets, and Thipatcha Putthawong’s stunning spell of 6/6 from 6.1 overs in the opening clash.

Thailand’s strong showing against Zimbabwe comes after they beat Netherlands in four ODIs, then won three of their four T20I clashes late last year, following their rousing run to the Women’s Asia Cup semi-finals.

Captain Naruemol Chaiwai led the way for Thailand in the ODI series against Zimbabwe with 111 runs including two fifties while only being dismissed once in three innings, as 19-year-old left-arm orthodox Putthawong finished with nine wickets.

Zimbabwe opener Sharne Mayers was their top-scorer with 77 runs from three assured knocks, while they will look to Kelis Ndhlovu to shake up the Thailand batting line-up after the left-arm spinner took 10 wickets in the ODI series.
