Andile Phehlukwayo

The South African players you need to pick in your ICC Dream11 Fantasy teams

Andile Phehlukwayo

A South Africa without AB de Villiers will go into a World Cup for the first time since 2003 and the signs are far from ominous. Their squad is brimming with high quality bowlers in both the seam and spin department while they possess some of the most reliable batsmen in the world game.

The likes of skipper Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock have consistent numbers and are reliable players at the top while Kagiso Rabada and Imran Tahir have spades of wickets to back their respective cases for selection..

But who are your trusted options? Who should you stay away from when picking players from South Africa?

The expensive must-haves

Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis come with credits of 10.5 and 10 respectively, the most for South African players. But the two are easily among the most reliable players in ODI cricket of late. De Kock should trump any other opposition wicket-keeper in the category for a daily contest while du Plessis is a handy option to have for any match South Africa plays.

Quinton de Kock would be a shrewd pick as your wicket-keeper

Kagiso Rabada and Hashim Amla come at 9.5 credits each but the latter is far from a must-have. Rabada, though, will be a handful in any condition and is always among the wickets. He is a sure shot starter like de Kock and du Plessis and you can trust in all three for even your season fantasy. For daily contests, the three are unavoidable players.

The value for money picks

Andile Phehlukwayo has been an impactful player for the Proteas but he comes with a low credit of 7.5 which makes him an enticing option. He is likely to bat at 7 and bowl his quota of overs too which gives him a good opportunity to rack up fantasy points. He is a great choice to have in your ranks for a daily contest if you want to squeeze in players with higher credits.

If Dwaine Pretorius is played ahead of Morris and Phehlukwayo as the all-rounder, he is a handy pick who fewer fantasy players may opt for. At 6.5 credits, he comes incredibly cheap too. The same applies to Chris Morris who is a wicket-taker at 8 credits.

Aiden Markram with 7.5 credits is another left-field option. His ODI numbers aren't great but he has shown a penchant to score big in Tests and could be a great differential to have if he starts. Lungi Ngidi and David Miller at 8 credits are an absolute steal and the former in particular is known for picking up wickets at a good strike-rate. They are both good outside bets for your season fantasy too.
