Finalists Australia have averaged 8.72 per over in the last 10 overs, the highest of the tournament, although they’ve only gone past 40 overs on two occasions. Their opponents on Saturday, India, have been strong at both the start and the finish of the innings, averaging a tournament-leading 6.66 runs per over in the first 10 (Australia have been striking at 5.52), and 8.48 at the business end.

Additionally, India have averaged more boundaries than any other side, sending the ball to the rope approximately once every six deliveries in the first and last 10 overs. India have also only lost one wicket in the first 10 overs – three fewer than any other side – meaning that, incredibly, their batting average during that crucial PowerPlay period is 320!

On the topic of strong batting, New Zealand’s Finn Allen has taken a bit of a liking to the pace bowlers during the tournament. He scored 214 runs against seam – more than any other player – although he did also fall victim to it five times.

A warning for Australia’s pacemen on Saturday – India’s classy No.3 Shubman Gill, whose unbeaten hundred in the semi-final guided his team to a winning total against Pakistan, has scored 198 tournament runs against the quicks for one dismissal at an incredible rate of 7.51 runs per over.

Against spin, West Indies’ Alick Athanaze has led the way, scoring 93 runs more than any other batsman facing the slow men, with 252 in total. That is 60 per cent of his runs across the tournament, in which he impressed with two centuries.
