Uncapped Kaul picked for India’s limited-overs series against Ireland and England
Virat Kohli will return to the India side for their upcoming T20I series against Ireland and their T20I and ODI series versus England after being rested for Afghanistan’s inaugural Test against India.
His return means he will miss the end of his stint playing English domestic cricket for Surrey, which had been set to continue throughout June. India’s first T20I against Ireland takes place on 27 June, during Surrey’s fixture versus Yorkshire at Scarborough.
Rohit Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah, all of whom will also miss Afghanistan’s debut Test, have been selected.
India’s squads for both T20I series are identical, and there are only minor differences between them and the ODI squad. Siddarth Kaul, a 27-year-old fast bowler who has impressed in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League, has received his maiden call-up, taking his place in both squads.
Ambati Rayudu, who last played for India in any format in 2016, was called up to the ODI squad. He averages over 50 in the format after 34 games. Sheryas Iyer and Umesh Yadav were also selected for the ODI squad but not the T20I squads, while Suresh Raina and Manish Pandey were selected for the T20I squads only.
