Zampa won't 'change too much' despite World Cup disappointment

Zampa had a decent build-up to the event, claiming 19 wickets in 13 games, including a career-best 4/43. However, his form dwindled in the World Cup, as he took just five wickets in four games at 47.20, three of which came in Australia's tournament opener against Afghanistan.

"I suppose the way the World Cup went, people expected the leg-spinners to have a different tournament to what they did," he told cricket.com.au ahead of his first appearance in the 2019 Australian domestic one-day cup. "The weather didn't help that, the wickets weren't as dry as we expected them to be. But, yeah, personally it didn't go the way I felt it should."

Zampa is now ready to bring his best to the fore in the domestic season. His numbers in List A cricket over the years have been impressive, with 118 wickets in 82 matches, with four four-wicket hauls.

The 27-year-old has faith in his process, and will not be aiming to "change too much" of his approach in the upcoming games. "I'm pretty consistent, so I'm going to keep it pretty simple and do what I've always done," he said.

"I'm not going to change too much. I've had a really good few years in one-day cricket, particularly at the domestic level."

Ahead of their first assignment of the summer against Queensland, Zampa heaped praise on his national and South Australia teammate Alex Carey. The wicket-keeper batsman has been in excellent form recently, scoring 605 international runs at 43.21 this year.

Carey also had a good run for Sussex in the English domestic circuit, accumulating 264 runs in the T20 Blast at 37.71, with a strike-rate over 152. "He's got some presence at the moment, Kezza," Zampa said.

"The way he's playing with the bat, the way he's kept for the last few years too, he's one of those guys who keeps getting better and better."
