England dealt another injury scare as pacer walks off against Afghanistan

After Brydon Carse was ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy, Mark Wood was seen limping midway through his spell in England’s second game of the tournament.

Bowling his fourth over against Afghanistan, speedster Mark Wood was seen walking gingerly midway through the over in Lahore.

Shortly afterwards the England physio tended to Wood, and was seen helping the pacer stretch his left knee. Wood went on to finish his over before he left the field.

Even though the pacer returned back on the field to bowl an additional four overs, Wood was seen in discomfort later in the innings again, before he returned back to the dressing room following the 43rd over.

England have already lost Brydon Carse from their squad after he picked up an injury during the Australia game and was replaced by Rehan Ahmed in the squad.

Wood, who has battled multiple injuries throughout his career, had been ruled out for nearly a year in 2024 owing to an ankle injury.

In England’s Champions Trophy opener against Australia, Wood had snapped the all-important wicket of Steve Smith, finishing with figures of 1/75.
