Anamul Haque dreaming of a World Cup appearance

Anamul Haque.

Haque made three appearances for Bangladesh at the 2015 World Cup, making consecutive scores of 29 against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka respectively, before an injury cut short his tournament.

However, he found himself out of Bangladesh’s one-day international side for almost three years after the tournament, before returning in March 2018.

Further opportunity came against the Windies in July, but the 26-year-old opener couldn’t make them count, amassing 33 runs in his three innings.

Despite being left out of the team since that series, he is still doing all he can to book his spot in Bangladesh’s 2019 World Cup squad.

“I definitely want to play the World Cup,” Haque told cricfrenzy.com.

"In my breath, in my every endeavour, in my net session, gym session, I think to play the 2019 World Cup. To materialize the hope, I will do every possible thing.”

During his absence from the national side, Anamul has been playing regular first-class cricket in the National Cricket League (NCL) and Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), and will turn out for Comilla Victorians in the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He admits that each of these competitions is a potential trial for the World Cup.

“I made a comeback with the series against West Indies but I couldn’t do well,” he added.

“I was dropped from the team but since then every match is a preparation for me for the World Cup, be it NCL [or] BCL, and so every match of the BPL or if I play any one-day match after the BPL will be like a preparation match for me for the World Cup.

“I will make myself ready always. That’s why every match is important for me.”
