Corey Anderson to focus solely on white-ball cricket ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

Anderson, who hasn't played international cricket since the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, hopes that focusing on white-ball cricket ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup will boost his chances of selection.

Having undergone back surgery a year ago, Anderson is now back to full fitness and is keen to win back a spot in the New Zealand side. Anderson has been selected for the New Zealand 'A' tour to the United Arab Emirates to play Pakistan 'A' and positive performances there could lead to his elevation to the senior squad.

New Zealand have left two spots free in their white-ball squad for their tour to the UAE later this year and so will be looking at the New Zealand 'A' tour with interest.

After featuring in all nine of New Zealand's matches at the 2015 ICC World Cup, Anderson is desperate to be selected again. He told Stuff, "I got a taste of [the World Cup] here four years ago and it was unbelievable. To try and give myself a chance to be involved in that again, that's the driving force."

Whilst he's ruled out playing first-class cricket in the near future, Anderson, who has played in 13 Tests, has made it clear that the decision is not a permanent one. Anderson has suffered a succession of injuries in recent years and his wretched injury record undoubtedly played a part in his decision.
