England take cautious approach with all-rounder ahead of South Africa ODIs

The young all-rounder will head home and freshen up ahead of the gruelling multi-format series in Australia that commences next month.

Teenage England all-rounder Freya Kemp will return home and miss her side's upcoming ODI series in South Africa.

Kemp was originally chosen for the Test, T20I and ODI components of the South Africa tour, but a decision has been made to monitor the workloads of the 19-year-old ahead of next month's Ashes tour against Australia.

"All-rounder Freya Kemp will return home from England Women’s multiformat tour of South Africa today," England said via a release.

"The decision has been made to manage her workload and help her prepare for the upcoming Ashes series in Australia.

"Kemp was last month selected in all three squads (T20, ODI and Test) to tour South Africa and featured in all three of England’s T20 matches."

Kemp managed two wickets from three appearances across that T20I series that England won 3-0, with her best performance coming in the opening match of the series at East London when she clean bowled South Africa No.3 Anneke Bosch for 18.

The ODI series against South Africa is part of the ongoing ICC Women's Championship, with England currently in second place and needing a positive result in South Africa to finish the cycle at the top of the standings.
