Leading ranking performers for each side in the Women’s T20 World Cup

Ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, we look at their most consistent players in the ICC Women’s T20I Rankings.

As of 3 September 2024, Beth Mooney, Sophie Ecclestone, and Hayley Matthews are at the helm of the ICC Women’s T20I Batting, Bowling, and All-Rounder Rankings respectively.

Australia

Left-handed opening batter Mooney (769 rating points) occupies the top spot in the Women’s T20I Batting Rankings, while the second-best for the side is Tahlia McGrath (762 rating points), placed closely behind Mooney at No.2.

In what perhaps comes as a surprise, no Australia bowler is in the top 10 places of the Women’s Bowling Rankings, with Darcie Brown (657 points) and Ashleigh Gardner (652 points) representing the T20 World Cup defenders at ranks 14 and 15th respectively.

It is Gardner (401 rating points) who is the best all-rounder for Australia, sitting at No.2 in the T20I All-Rounder Rankings.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh’s experienced skipper Nigar Sultana Joy, both a regular contributor with the willow and behind the stumps is placed 15th in the Women’s T20I Batting Rankings, making her the highest-ranked Bangladesh batter.

Rising sensation Rabeya Khan, who has 31 T20I wickets at an average of 15.3 so far, is the best Bangladesh bowler as per the rankings. The Tigeress leg-spinner is ranked 10th with 677 rating points.

Salma Khatun is their highest-ranked all-rounder (25th rank, with 143 points).

England

Sophie Ecclestone is the No.1 ranked T20I bowler in the world, with 772 rating points, and is followed closely by team-mate leg-spinner Sarah Glenn, who is at second with 760 points. While spinners take the lead, pacer Lauren Bell (9th rank) rounds off the top 10 for England.

Nat Sciver-Brunt carries the England flag in the batting (18th rank, 606 rating points) and all-rounder rankings (9th rank, 245 points).

India

India’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana is their best batter in rankings, with her consistency in the South Africa home series and Women’s Asia Cup helping her to the fourth rank with 743 rating points.

Deepti Sharma, the ever-reliant off-spinning all-rounder for the Women in Blue, holds the best position in bowling (third with 755 rating points), and all-rounder (third with 396 points) rankings.

New Zealand

It's still a case of the veterans leading New Zealand's assault for the most part heading into the 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup.

With the bat, Suzie Bates (9th rank, 674 rating points) and Sophie Devine (10th rank, 656 rating points) lead the way, with young gun Amelia Kerr behind at 12th (617).

From a bowling point of view though, the slack has been picked up by the next generation. Fran Jonas has snuck to seventh on the latest rankings (694), with Eden Carson (640) and Kerr (615) in 19th and 21st respectively. Unsurprisingly, the Kiwi campaign will likely hinge on the success of all-rounders Kerr (4th) and Devine (6th).

Pakistan

Sadia Iqbal, Pakistan’s strike bowler in T20Is who had a brilliant run in the Women’s Asia Cup with eight wickets at an average of 8.37, is the highest-placed player in the Women’s bowling rankings, situated at 4th with 743 rating points against her name.

Former skipper Nida Dar is the leading all-rounder for Women in Green as per the rankings (7th rank with 275 rating points).

Wicketkeeper-opener Muneeba Ali (36th rank, 505 rating points) is their best batter in the rankings.

Scotland

Currently, the No.8 T20I All-Rounder, Kathryn Bryce's output will no doubt go a long way for Women's T20 World Cup debutants Scotland. Bryce is also Scotland's top bowler (56th) and batter (31st), with sister Sarah at No.43 in batters.

Abtaha Maqsood (77nd bowler) and Priyanaz Chatterji (66th all-rounder) are two other Scots of note pushing the top 50 in their respective disciplines.

South Africa

For the Proteas, unsurprisingly captain Laura Wolvaardt, their most reliable batter, is highest ranked in the Batting Rankings. She’s in the fifth place, with 736 rating points.

Economical left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba (16th rank, 645 rating points) is their best bowler in the rankings, whereas experienced Marizanne Kapp is at the 10th spot of the Women’s All-Rounder Rankings, with 236 rating points.

Sri Lanka

As expected, charismatic leader Chamari Athapaththu takes the lead for Sri Lanka in the rankings. She’s their best batter (6th rank, 691 rating points), and all-rounder (5th rank, 330 points).

Off-break bowler Inoshi Priyadarshini Fernando breaks Athapaththu’s monopoly in the bowling rankings, securing an 8th spot for herself with 691 points.

West Indies

Skipper Hayley Matthews’ all-round excellence over the last few months makes her West Indies’ leading player in all three rankings.

She’s at No. 3 in the batting rankings behind Mooney and McGrath with 746 rating points, she also makes it to the top 10 places in the bowling rankings, sitting at the sixth spot with 703 rating points.

Her splendid showing with bat and ball makes her the women’s No. 1 T20I all-rounder with 524 points.
