Big boost for West Indies as Stafanie Taylor returns from knee injury
Experienced West Indies star Stafanie Taylor has been cleared fit to play in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final against New Zealand in Sharjah.
Taylor has been carrying an injury through the tournament and was unavailable for her side’s stunning win over England in the final fixture in Group B.
But the 33-year-old arrived with the squad in Sharjah and took part in the pre-game warm-up sessions.
And the news at the toss was that Taylor is back in the West Indies XI, replacing Chedean Nation.
Taylor is a vastly experienced international star, with 284 international caps to her name, and an average of 35.55 in T20 Internationals.
And she played an important role in West Indies' Group B campaign.
Taylor hit 44* from 41 balls against South Africa, ensuring that her side avoided what would have proven to be a damaging heavy defeat in the loss to South Africa.
And moved up to open the batting against Bangladesh, Taylor looked in fine form, helping build a big opening partnership with captain Hayley Matthews before being forced to retire hurt on 27*.
The winner of Friday’s semi-final will go on to play South Africa in Sunday’s final in Dubai, after the Proteas shocked defending champions Australia on Thursday.
