England fast bowler to miss Test series of Pakistan

Young left-armer sidelined after injury in third Sri Lanka Test at The Oval

Left-arm quick Josh Hull has been ruled out of England's October tour of Pakistan with a quad injury. The side will not call up a replacement as cover.

The 20-year-old made his Test debut against Sri Lanka earlier this month, taking three wickets in England's defeat in the third Test at The Oval where he suffered the injury. He was then ruled out England's limited-overs series with Australia.

Hull's withdrawal means Chris Woakes, Matthew Potts, Olly Stone, Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse are the frontline fast bowling options in a 16-member squad for Pakistan.

Captain Ben Stokes meanwhile is unlikely to bowl during the first Test beginning on October 7, though is tipped to contribute with the ball later in the series as he continues treatment on his torn hamstring in domestic action.

England's Test series against Pakistan begins on October 7 in Multan. The teams play at the same venue for the second Test on October 15, before travelling to Rawalpindi for the third Test on October 24.
