A few record books were rewritten during England’s tour of India for a five-match Test series.
The highly anticipated five-match Test series between India and England truly delivered on its promise, showcasing an intense battle between bat and ball, even though the final outcome displayed a clear dominance.
The series kicked off in Hyderabad, where England took an early lead, putting Rohit Sharma's men on the back foot. However, India displayed remarkable resilience and determination, staging a comeback in the subsequent matches to clinch the series 4-1.

The series saw both teams fiercely competing with the bat, leading to a flurry of sixes and setting a new record for the highest number of maximums in a single series.
The latest Ashes series had set a record with 74 sixes but the recently concluded India-England series surpassed this mark comfortably, featuring a total of 102 sixes. Impressively, the hosts led the charge with 72 sixes, overshadowing England's tally of 30 in the series.
Most sixes in a Test series:
Series | Number of sixes |
India vs England (2024) | 102 |
England vs Australia (2024) | 74 |
Australia vs England (2013/14) | 65 |

Leading the remarkable exhibition of batting prowess was Yashasvi Jaiswal, concluding the series as the top run-scorer with an impressive total of 712 runs, featuring an astounding 26 sixes.
Jaiswal's achievement places him in exclusive company as the second Indian batter to surpass the 700-run mark in a Test series, a record he shares with the ICC Hall of Famer Sunil Gavaskar, who accomplished this feat twice in his illustrious career.
In the final Test, Jaiswal added another feather to his cap by becoming the second-fastest Indian player to reach 1000 Test runs, achieving this milestone in just 16 innings. He stands only behind Vinod Kambli, who achieved the feat in 14 innings.

Amongst the bowlers, it was Ravichandran Ashwin who weaved his magic with the ball yet again, finishing as the top wicket-taker with 26 wickets.
Despite the glowing achievements, it was a challenging series for Ashwin. On the day he achieved the milestone of 500 Test wickets, the off-spinner had to abruptly depart for a family medical emergency during the Rajkot Test. He did however return and went on to play an important role in the remainder of the series, capping off his 100th Test in Dharamsala with a scintillating nine-wicket haul in the match, including a 36th five-for in the final innings.
Most wickets in the series:

Ravichandran Ashwin (IND) | 26 |
Tom Hartley (ENG) | 22 |
Jasprit Bumrah (IND) | 19 |

In a momentous achievement on the concluding day of the fifth Test, England's veteran pacer James Anderson marked a significant milestone by claiming his 700th Test wicket with the dismissal of Kuldeep Yadav early of Day 3.
Standing as the sole pacer within the top four on the list of wicket-takers, Anderson is now just eight wickets away from matching the legendary Shane Warne, who holds the record with 708 wickets to his name.
