Shaheen misses out as Pakistan name squad for second Bangladesh Test

Shaheen Afridi was not named in Pakistan's 12 for the second Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi.

Pakistan will be without ace seamer Shaheen Afridi for the second ICC World Test Championship match in Rawalpindi against Bangladesh.

The pace core of Naseem Shah, Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Ali has been retained while Shaheen, who had rejoined the squad after being released post the first Test, wasn't named.

Left-arm pacer Mir Hamza, who last played in Australia earlier this year, has been included in the 12.

Leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed, who sat out from the first Test, where Pakistan fielded an all-pace attack, returns and could feature in the final XI.

Pakistan have not won their last nine home Test matches, stretching back to early 2021. With a loss to Bangladesh in the first Test, the hosts will look to turn the streak around to level the series.

Pakistan's newly appointed head coach Jason Gillespie revealed his conversation with Shaheen regarding the team's decision to leave him out of the squad.

"Shaheen's missed out this game. We've had a good conversation with him, and he fully understands and appreciates the thinking behind it.

"Shaheen's been given some feedback. He's working on some things with his bowling to be as effective as he possibly can be. He's working really well with Azhar Mahmood. We want to see Shaheen at his best because we've got a lot of cricket in all formats and Shaheen's going to play a really big role in that."
